FlixBus is expanding its U.S. network with the launch of three new routes that begin this month. The additions will connect major cities and university hubs across the Midwest and South, offering travelers more affordable and convenient options ahead of the peak spring break season.
“Reliable, affordable, and flexible travel options are more important than ever, and we are making it easier for students, commuters, and budget-conscious travelers to stay connected,” said Karina Frayter, head of corporate affairs at Flix North America, parent company of FlixBus. “With these new routes, we’re expanding connections between key university towns, major urban centers, and regional transit hubs, giving travelers more choices beyond flying or driving.”
The new routes, set to launch this month, include:
St. Louis – Nashville – Atlanta (Launching March 13) FlixBus is strengthening its Southern-Midwest connections with an express service linking St. Louis, Nashville, and Atlanta. Operated in partnership with St. Louis-based Vandalia Bus Lines, the route offers a faster alternative for travelers heading between three of FlixBus’ highest-demand cities.
The service is expected to benefit students at Vanderbilt University, Southern Illinois University, and Georgia State University. It will operate between six and seven schedules weekly.
Cincinnati – Indianapolis – Chicago – Madison (Launching March 13) For the first time, FlixBus is adding Cincinnati to its network with a new route connecting Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin. The express service will reduce travel times to nine or 10 hours, compared with up to 16 hours on traditional routes.
Key stops include the University of Cincinnati, Indianapolis transit hubs, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The route, operated in partnership with Cincinnati-based Queen City Transportation, will run six to seven times per week.
New York – Chicago (Launching March 19) A long-anticipated expansion, the new direct route between New York City and Chicago will provide a low-cost, long-distance travel alternative. Operated in partnership with New Jersey-based Eagle Bus Lines, the route will initially run five to seven schedules per week before increasing to daily service on April 14.
The route will introduce FlixBus service to State College, Pennsylvania, home to Penn State University, while also linking other high-density cities including Pittsburgh, Columbus, Dayton, and Indianapolis. The expansion is expected to connect more than two million college students to major metropolitan centers.
FlixBus’ expansion comes as intercity bus travel continues to grow in popularity. Flix North America, the parent company of FlixBus and Greyhound, reported a 7.5% increase in ridership during the recent winter holiday season. A Chaddick Institute report projects a 4% increase in U.S. bus ridership in 2025, surpassing growth forecasts for airline and car travel.
“There’s a shift happening in how people think about travel. It’s no longer just about getting from one place to another; it’s about affordability, convenience, and making smarter choices,” Frayter said. “We’re building a network that reflects what travelers want today: reliable, stress-free transportation that fits their budget and lifestyle.”
FlixBus offers free Wi-Fi, power outlets, and extra legroom on all its routes. Tickets for the new routes are now available at FlixBus.com and via the FlixBus app.
