SAN ANTONIO — Nothing says “winner” louder than a fantastic-looking trophy, so the 2018 UMA Maintenance Competition will be notable for the new trophy provided by the competition’s sponsor, ABC Companies.
And the accompanying cash awards are pretty impressive as well, having been increased over prior years.
The new trophy will be awarded to the top-rated competitor at the UMA Leadership Awards Celebration on Monday, Jan. 8, during Motorcoach Expo in San Antonio.
“The Maintenance Competition is a highlight of Expo every year because it shines a light on the achievements and work of the professionals who keep our coaches safely operating every day of the year,” said Roman Cornell, ABC’s chief commercial officer and executive vice president.
“ABC Companies is pleased to sponsor the competition and honor the winner with a new trophy that reflects the importance of excellence in motorcoach maintenance.”
In addition to the trophy, the top competitor will receive a cash award of $2,500, up from $500 awarded at Expo 2017. Cash prizes for the first and second runners up have been increased, as well, to $1,000 and $500 from $200 and $100, respectively.
“Those of us on the Risk Management Committee always look forward to the UMA Maintenance Competition because we understand the importance of the people who keep our fleets on the road,” said Brian Scott, chair of UMA’s Risk Management Committee and president of Escot Bus Lines.
“Now, thanks to ABC Companies’ generous sponsorship, we have increased the prize money and added a spectacular trophy for the winner that will truly highlight the importance of this event,” Scott said.
“I expect everyone gathered for the UMA Leadership Awards Celebration will be impressed by this outstanding new trophy when we announce the winner.”
The Maintenance Competition will take place Monday morning, Jan. 8, in the San Antonio facilities of UMA member Star Shuttle. Maintenance professionals will gather to put their skills and knowledge to the test, competing against their peers and a ticking clock.
The written component of the competition takes place the day before, in conjunction with the Maintenance Interchange.
Transportation to the event will be provided from the host hotels.
