Peter Pan Bus takes over Megabus routes in Northeast Corridor

Peter Pan Bus Lines, a nearly century-old family-owned company, will take over all Megabus routes in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions on Aug. 16.

Under the deal, Peter Pan will increase the number of trips it makes to major cities like Washington, Baltimore and Philadelphia and add round-the-clock service.

The expansion follows the bankruptcy of Megabus’s parent company, Coach USA, which is shedding debt and reorganizing to streamline operations. As they emerge from bankruptcy, the once-biggest bus company in North America will continue to operate charter service, commuter service, and airport shuttles.

Peter A. Picknelly, Chairman and CEO of Peter Pan Bus Lines, emphasized the company’s commitment to modernization and customer satisfaction.

“We’re modernizing our fleet, which is what our consumers want; they want a nice, clean, modern bus. We listen to our customers — where they want to go — and expand where it makes sense,” Picknelly said.

To support this expansion, Peter Pan has undertaken significant investments, including the purchase of 45 new buses and the hiring of 75 additional drivers. The company has also reduced fares by nearly 40%. The upgraded fleet features improved seating, onboard video entertainment, and Wi-Fi.

Making other upgrades

Peter Pan has also relaunched its mobile app, which now includes the PERKs program, allowing passengers to earn free travel. The app’s enhanced features make it easier for customers to book trips in advance and access rewards.

Peter Pan recently has enhanced its offerings through partnerships with Trailways and Amtrak, along with alliances with ride services like Uber and Lyft.

“What people want in a bus company is really very simple,” said Picknelly. “They want a clean bus, a professional driver, and on-time, friendly service. It seems easy, but it’s really difficult to execute all the time. I happen to think that Peter Pan executes it better than most.”

Peter Pan Bus Lines is one of the largest privately-owned motor coach companies in the United States, serving over 100 communities in the Northeast Corridor. The company offers daily express service in major metro areas including Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington.
